My youngest turned four yesterday. Ain’t he cute?

Four year-olds love presents

Me and big brother Kyler building a birthday present.

It’s nice to have the big sis around in case you need a push.

You need to concentrate to ride a bike. It helps if you stick your tongue out!

“What do you want to do today?”
“Go to Starbucks!”

Posing for a photo in that way that four year-olds have!

Hot chocolate is yummy. Don’t mind the spill.

No way is she old enough to have three kids including an 11 year-old!

This is my “give me back the camera” look. As seen by my daughter.

A portrait of the little man by Alyssa

He had his choice of any kind of dessert he wanted. So, of course, he had a rice crispy treat cake!
My daughter, Alyssa is amazingly talented. Smart, beautiful, socially adept, and a great actress. She had the female lead role as Nala in her class production of the Lion King.

The masks were made and painted by the students, teacher and parents of Mr. Rhoades class. I think this mask of Mufasa is amazing.

Nala pins Simba.

Look at this body language that Alyssa is using to express how Nala would feel. Alyssa kept insisting that SHE did not have scene where she was in love with Alex. NALA had a scene where she was in love with Simba. It’s rough pretending to be in love as a fifth grader!
My wife’s parents celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary last weekend and we had a small luau BBQ in celebration. They were married while John was on leave about to go to Vietnam and put their wedding together in a week. They really are an inspiration in the way the care for each other and how great of parents they are. My wife made them a banana cake, which is what they had for their wedding!

They commemorated with a frosting fight. I’ll spare you the images of my FIL trying to lick Judy with his cake-covered tongue!

As one of my sideline activities, I have a couple educational websites for professional and aspiring wedding photographers. Over at the Wedding Photography Project, I currently have a contest to win a photo bag. Anyone is welcome to enter! Below is the post from the WPP.
This website is all about teaching each other cool tips, tricks, techniques and philosophies. So here is our first contest to convince people to send me some cool tips, tricks and techniques.
Send me a cool photo (c@coryparris.com) that you took at a wedding. Include with it a short paragraph about how you shot and processed it. If I like it, I’ll publish it. If it’s the best entry (judged solely by Cory Parris, no complaining), meaning that you have a really cool photograph and included some cool thoughts or ideas on how you did that could help another photographer, then you win a brand new Boda Bag!
To show you what I mean here is an entry from me (I’m not going to judge myself the winner - I already have a Boda).

I took this photograph at Hill’s Resort in Priest Lake Idaho. The couple loves the lake and mountains, so I had them go out on the dock and used a telephoto lens (85mm on a 30D) to compress the distance between the couple and the mountains in the background. I used a small aperture (f7.1) to have some detail and definition in the mountains. When I processed this, I used a neat trick that I just discovered. For the last few years, when I want the colors to really pop, I create a duplicate layer and change the blending mode to “Overlay”. This time I sandwiched a black and white layer in between the original layer and the Overlay. This created the high-contrast, desaturated and intense look.
Here’s the prize.

I can’t wait to see your entries!
Read about Laura, Steve and their story! Seattle Weddings Online. Any of my clients that want to be featured, let me know! All you have to do is send me your story, I’ll put the images together and publish it. Also, as a bribe, I’ll send you an 8×10 of your wedding!
