Megan and Daniel are a great couple. I had a great time photographing their wedding. We started at their home where they were getting ready. We went to the University of Washington Campus for some portraits before going to the Lake Union Cafe for their wedding and reception!Read More
Ellen and Eric started their wedding day at Christ Our Hope Catholic Church in Seattle. It is a relatively new church just a couple of blocks from Pike Place Market. Then we went to the Olympic Sculpture Park and Myrtle Edwards Park on the Seattle waterfront. It was a day of beautiful, subtle light with a layer of clouds.
Finally, we went to the Lake Union Cafe for the reception. A beautiful and delicious place to end the night!

Martina and Ron had a beautiful, windy day for their Lake Union Cafe wedding. We started at a hotel in the Northgate area. The plan was to go to Gas Works Park for the portraits, but with the wind, we called an audible and did portraits at the University of Washington. Then, we went over to the Lake Union Cafe for the wedding ceremony and reception!

I love Adam's reaction to seeing Lindsay.
Superheroes live in Seattle!
Lindsay playing with a little friend.
Lindsay's dad as he walks her down the aisle. I love this one!
Stephanie and Patrick had a beautiful Lake Union Cafe wedding. The Lake Union Cafe is a fun and unique wedding venue in Seattle. It features a beautiful dance floor space with an amazing ceiling. It is surrounded by booths and tables making the festivities the center of attention. Stephanie and Patrick are a very fun and loving couple with great collective sense of humor.
Amy and Matt are as fantastic of a pair of lawyers as I have ever met. Seriously. They are a very fun, smart, energetic, loving couple with a fantastic group of friends and family. They were married at the Lake Union Cafe wedding venue. It is a very cool space with a fantastic chandelier over the dance floor and a very cool ceiling.
The rather iconic sign of the Lake Union Cafe.
Here is Amy walking through the hundreds of names and dates of all the couples that have been married at the Lake Union Cafe.
One of my favorite things about the Lake Union Cafe is the getting ready room. It is past the kitchen and down the stairs. It feels like a secret passageway. Then it opens up into a large, beautiful room.
Amy and Matt seeing each other for the first time.
Matt realizing how lucky he is. :)
The gumwall is gross. However, it looks pretty cool when the lighting is right and it is out of focus.
I love this image. They look so happy.
I love lights that are out of focus. They look cool. For this, I used an 85mm lens to throw the lights out of focus while keeping Amy and Matt sharp. In photography terms, the quality of out of focus blur is called the bokeh. I guessed the origin as French, but it turns out it is of Japanese origins.
A quick trip to Gasworks Park. For this image of Amy and Matt, I used the natural light on them, and lit the background with flash. Without the flash, the background was nearly completely dark with a correct exposure on the couple.
This one has a flash just out of view on the left hand side.
Here I am back to my obsession with out of focus lights.
Amy's dad and Matt shake on the agreement. Matt gets Amy and Dad gets to see his daughter happy.
I love this expression on Amy's face. And those beautiful out of focus lights. Real expressions really do trump all else. Content is the most important thing in photographs. However, I do love the creamy bokeh from the 135mm f2!
Another great expression from Amy. For the interested photography geeks, like me, this was taken at ISO 8000. Coming from a film background. That is crazy.
Signing the wall at the Lake Union Cafe. Matt calls Amy's handwriting "our font".
A photo with the Lake Union Cafe sign. Also a tradition for weddings here. I used the flash to light up the veil and add some drama to the image.
Here is the first dance. You can see the beautiful dance floor space at the Lake Union Cafe wedding venue. The inlaid tin roof and the chandelier are great. So is the architecture and the way the ceiling rises above the dance floor.
As you can tell through all the dancing photographs, I have a couple flashes working with the ambient to create some drama and cool exposures.
